One of the first master-planned communities in Houston was Eastwood. William A. Wilson designed and developed the  community in 1911, the first homes were sold in 1912 and the first residents moved in September 1913. At that time, Eastwood was built with all of the newest amenities with oak trees and sycamore trees lining the streets and properties. In 1913 Eastwood was hailed by the Houston Daily Post as "a model suburb... one of the most convenient, attractive, and beautiful homesite additions in the city of Houston." Eastwood was full of business owners and managers, and young entrepreneurs. The community attracted wealthy and notable residents. Howard Hughes even built a plane in a garage on Eastwood Street while staying with his aunt on McKinney Street. Eastwood was built in full with custom homes in the Mission, Arts and Crafts, Foursquare, and Craftsman-style architecture.
