Conroe Noon Lions Present Lifetime Membership

If you missed our meeting this past week, you missed a great opportunity to hear from Judge Olen Underwood, our Judge of the 2nd Administrative Region of Texas.

You might not know that Judge Underwood played football for the NFL and the University of Texas. He shared some stories of “the good old days” that included dropping names of several of his friends. Though he grew up in Polk County, he is a very proud of having been the first class to go through all four years and graduate from Channelview High School. In the NFL, he played for the New York Giants, Denver Broncos and our very own Houston Oilers. He was studying law while playing football for five years. Judge Underwood came to Conroe in 1975 to work under Judge James Keeshan as assistant DA. He entertained all of us with stories of his childhood, professional football and interesting aspects from the bench. How appropriate that he be our speaker during Super Bowl week!

Speaking of Jim Keeshan, it was also a special day for him as well. This year, along with fellow Lion Bob Hataway, Lion Jim was presented his Life-Time Membership. These wonderful members have over 65 years of combined service and dedication to the Conroe Noon Lions Club. These Lions have paid their dues, in more ways than one, and we very proud to honor them with this prestigious award.

Our recent group of new members organized a ‘work night’ at the Eyeglass Recycling Center as their New Member Service Project for the year. Members came to the Eyeglass Recycling Center, at our Club Office at 1106 Wilson Road, to clean, sort, bag, tag and categorize donated glasses received by the club. Our eyeglass center recycles thousands of pairs of glasses each month to be sent on medical mission trips around the world!

A special shout out for Nathan Arrazate for being nominated as ‘Lion of the Month’ for December. Lion Nathan worked tirelessly during the holidays as Santa and brought smiles to children and adults. We need more volunteers like him to make this a better world.

Speaking of volunteerism, we have so many activities coming up and I would hate to miss them. Our next one, is a favorite by many that love to shoot. Our Annual Clay Shoot that is! The deer are safe now, so clean your shotgun and be ready to hit your mark on March 14 at the Creekwood Shooting Range. PULL!
