Located in Washington County, between Houston and Austin, Brenham, with its charming hills and fresh country air, has enticed many Houstonians to hold a second home in this lovely town.

Resembling many Texas towns, Brenham's settlers were farmers. Germans (along with Czechs and Poles) started settling as early as the mid-1800s, with cotton being the main crop during the early to late 1900s. Some of the heritage of the settlers survives through Brenham's annual festival each May called Maifest.

While visting Brenham, you can savor Blue Bell ice cream and take a self-guided tour at the Blue Bell Museum. Other fun activities include cruising the 1800s era architecture of the downtown area and stopping by an antique store or having some pie at the It Must Be Heaven restaurant. You can also visit the Antique Rose Emporium, Brenham's Farmer's Market or explore the Giddins Stone Mansion and its history. For those wanting to drive on the country roads, about 20 miles away you will find the Washington-on-the-Brazos historic site, honored as the site of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Next to the Washington-on-the-Brazos site, the Star of the Republic Museum and Barrington Living History Farm (a historical reenactment of life on an 1800s farm) awaits. Enjoy a day or afternoon in Brenham, you will be charmed!
