Why Spring 2022 Will Be a Great Time to Sell Your Home

Today’s real estate market is unprecedented. Because inventory is low (too few homes for too many buyers), bidding wars are the new normal, and prices have skyrocketed. Further complicating things for buyers, mortgage interest rates are beginning to rise, just crossing the 4% mark for the first time since 2019. According to Freddie Mac, rates averaged 4.16% for 30-year, fixed-rate loans in the week ending March 17.

While it’s still a great time for homebuyers to buy a home (rates are still historically low), a continued rise means we’re eventually going to reach a point where many buyers begin to drop out of the market. Rather than trying to predict what will happen next with the housing market, consider what you know right now: you know inventory is low, and competition is high. That makes right now an ideal time to sell.

If the past two years have taught us anything, it’s that the housing market is unpredictable — so take heed for 2022. If you’re in a good position to sell and it’s the right time in your life to make the leap, this may be the best time to make your move instead of waiting for another round of COVID, rising interest rates, or supply chain problems to affect the market. Selling your home this spring means you can advantage of the hot sellers’ market already in progress.
